“YOSL-OIC Signs Cooperation Contract with the APEC Digital Opportunity Center (ADOC)”

Thursday, December 2, 2010 the last, held at the Rectorate Building Campus Syiah Kuala University, Banda Aceh, Sumatra Orangutan Foundation for Sustainable-Orangutan Information Centre (YOSL-OIC) signed a cooperation contract (MoU) with the APEC Digital Opportunity Center (ADOC), which is one one main program of the APEC (Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation) in the field of information and communication technology. In this partnership contract YOSL-OIC, to get grants to 16 pieces of notebook ADOC in contributions from ASUS Taiwan Foundation to support programs in Mobile CDOC.

Mobile CDOC program itself is one part of the program CDOC (Conservation and the Digital Opportunity Centre) which has been running since January 2010, where the program aims to enhance community capacity and to develop ecotourism tour guide through the medium of information technology, to provide information technology training center and online publications about TNGL to local communities around the Bukit Lawang and Tangkahan, also made the CDOC as a center for conservation information together with local communities in an effort to raise awareness about the importance of TNGL, conservation and sustainable ecotourism.

The activities carried out in CDOC is:

  •     Computer and Information Technology training free to the public and guiding the sustainable tourism
  •     Free internet service to the community and visitors to the area of ??Bukit Lawang ecotourism and Tangkahan
  •     Internet and mobile libraries into remote villages around the area TNGL
  •     Reading garden for the community and visitors
  •     Support website for local agencies
  •     Conservation and environmental education

Currently CDOC has been opened in two locations ecotourism in Langkat, North Sumatra, namely in Bukit Lawang and Tangkahan, besides mobile CDOC also help achieve the program objectives by actively moving CDOC providing internet services and mobile libraries as well as conservation and environmental education to hamlets around Bukit Lawang and Tangkahan bordering the Gunung Leuser National Park (TNGL).

Besides YOSL-OIC, at the same place and time, Syiah Kuala Banda Aceh also signed a cooperation contract with the ADOC and get a grant form the PC to complete the 20 pieces of computer equipment Unsyiah IT Center for which construction is also funded by assistance from the Taiwan Government and the private sector.

Present at the signing of this contract, including Prof.. Darni M. David, Rector UNSYIAH, Ms. Diana Sai Hai-Yen, Managing Director of ADOC Secretariat, Institute for Information Indutsry Taiwan, Ms.. Ivy Lee, Chief Operation Officer, Asus Foundation Taiwan, Panut Hadisiswoyo, Founding Directory YOSL-OIC, Prof.. Samsu Rizal, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs UNSYIAH, David Dellatore, Scientific Directory YOSL-OIC, Mr. Samuel Ko, Assistant to the Taiwan Economic and Trade Representative Office (Teto) and Mr Jakarta. Wei-Ping Jia, CEO of Bamboo Community University Association (BCUA) Taiwan. While the signing of this MoU itself coordinated by Fuadi Taufik Abidin, Ph.D., Chairman of the Department of Information Studies Program and Mr. UNSYIAH. Jose Chen, Project Manager of the Institute for Information Industry of Taiwan.
